semitisms

semitisms
Hebrew or Aramaic words or phrases which have influenced the Greek in the NT and which seem to reflect the Aramaic speech of Jesus and the first Christians, such as Abba (‘Father’, Mark 14:36) and maranatha, ‘Come, our Lord’ (1 Cor. 16:22).
It has been argued that the first two chapters of the gospel of Luke have a strong Semitic flavour. Poetic and symbolic language of the OT is employed: Luke 1:46–55 recalls the style and thought of 1 Sam. 2:1–10.
